A Fair Deal for Dogs Please?

Dear Readers,

I signed this because the new law does not tackle the issue in the right way. The dogs are not at fault. The people who abuse them are.

So, instead of opposing both the dogs’ rights to be a dog, and their owners’ rights to keep them, why not oppose the rights of unsuitable owners, breeders, and puppy farmers?  After all, most cases against dogs are actually the fault of the people involved.

If a man poked you with a stick, would you stand there and let him?
If you neglect a child, does it not misbehave and cry for attention?
Dogs are much the same.

Suggestions:
-Curb money made by yielding 1000s of puppies and so reduce the number coming into the world.

– Tax all puppy farms.

-Limit the number of litters a legal breeder can produce.

-Make it illegal to provoke, abuse or neglect any dog (whether their own or somebody else’s)

– Ensure penalties for doing so are a hefty deterrent.

-Put money into animal welfare societies etc, so they can do more to see that fewer dogs are mistreated, run dog training courses for people on low incomes, and help stop unauthorised puppy production.

– Set up licences for dog owners – to be revoked, in the event of clear abuse.

We can make an enormous difference, if we go about it the right way.
